1.  Dried dulse, said to be ‘good for you’ and ‘full of iron’, on sale at a fishmonger’s stall in St George’s Market, Belfast, 14 April 2017.

2. Dillisk (Palmaria palmata) is very popular in the region and is sold on the streets of Limerick (and other cities) by members of the travelling community. They present it in small, brown-paper bags, alongside similar bags of periwinkles [Littorina littorea] [Clonlara, Co. Clare, June 2002].

3.  Dulse …  this is quite a sought after delicacy near Ballycastle.  One can see men wading at low tide among the rocks in spring to gather it.  We used to nibble bits raw, but more traditionally it was dried – and may be sold in shops or (very traditionally) at the Lammas Fair at the very end of August in Ballycastle [Ballycastle, Co. Antrim, January 1991].
