Elephant-ears

2014-12-06 11.01.221.  17 August 2014, visited the Palacio de Viana, Córdoba, Andalucia, Spain, famous for its 12 courtyard gardens, many of which contain Bergenia.  A leaflet describing the gardens gives pig squeak as its English name.

2.  I have always called Bergenia elephant’s ears, and it is so mentioned in my seed catalogue.  My gardener, born in Gwent, calls it American cowslip.  Does anyone else? [Rhymney, Gwent, March 2002].
