Fat hen

1.  In India my mother uses fat hen – bethua saag – in curries [Sutton Community Farm, Wallington, Surrey, July 2017].

2.  There used to be what I thought was a weed growing in quantities in this area, but I have heard it said that in days gone by, when green vegetables were scarce, this weed – fat hen it was called – was used as a vegetable [Mauden, Bedfordshire, April 1993].
