Geranium

1. In Greece when we are stung by nettles we use geranium leaves to rub on our skin to ameliorate the irritation [Natural History Museum, London, October 2013].

2. It is a widespread practice still to water pot plants with cold tea [which] encourages growth, especially with geranium. One of my great aunts used to say ‘Geraniums don’t like to get their toes wet’ – a reminder not to overwater. She always kept a scented geranium on the kitchen windowsill to clear the air of cooking smells [Corbridge, Northumberland, March 1993].
