Hottentot fig

1. The Hottentot figs (Carpobrotus edulis and C. acinaciformis [Sally-my-handsome]) – both garden escapes growing abundantly wild – can be used medicinally. The cut fleshy leaf is juicy and can be rubbed on sunburn for relief [St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly, November 1992].
