85-year-old Conker Champion

The men’s competition winner at the annual World Conker Championships, held at Southwick, Northamptonshire, on Sunday 8 October 2017, was 85-year-old Chelsea Pensioner, John Riley.  However, he failed to win a game against the women’s winner, 45-year-old Julie Freeman, from Rutland.

As usual there were a large number of attractions apart from the championship, including displays by the Peterborough Morris men, and Tap ‘N’ Sync Appalachian dancers, food and drink stalls, and stalls raising funds for charity.  In 2016 the Championships donated £3800 to charities for the visually handicapped.
