In 1934 King George V bestowed on Belgium the honour, not given to any other non-Commonwealth country, of an annual parade to the Cenotaph, in Whitehall, London, in recognition of the Belgian army’s heroism and sacrifice during the First World War. The parade takes place on the Sunday before Belgian National Day, 21 July*. In 2019 the parade took place on 14 July.
*Or, according to some reports, the Saturday before Belgian National Day.
