The grave of Karl Marx (1818-83), German-born philosopher, economist and revolutionary socialist is probably the best known and most visited in Highgate’s East Cemetery, London Borough of Camden. Originally Marx was buried in his wife’s grave beside an insignificant side path, but in the 1950s their bodies were exhumed and moved to a more prominent position beside the Cemetery’s main path, the present memorial being unveiled on 14 March 1956.
