Halloween pumpkins – 3

2014-11-01 11.26.09The Didcot edition of the Oxfordshire Guardian of 30 October reported:

Pupils at two Oxford primary schools – Windmill and Larkrise – carved pumpkin [Cucurbita maxima] lanterns and ‘made pumpkin scones, roast pumpkin seeds and jewellery out of [the] leftovers.’

The events were organised by the charities Groundwork South and Hubub.  A spokesman for the latter explained that two-thirds of people throw away their pumpkins once Halloween is over, and the events provided ‘a great way to teach children about important food waste issues. while having fun and getting into the Halloween spirit.’
