Horse chestnut on MU banner

Posted on by royvickery |

The St Margaret’s Church, Rainham, Kent, Mothers’ Union banner depicts horse chestnut, Aesculus hippocastanum.  It seems that no one can recall why this unusual plant was chosen, but it has been suggested ‘there is a very large horse chestnut in the front of the churchyard and if you look from the main road this would be seen next to the church, but this is just a theory’.
