Huge conkers

Posted on by royvickery |

According to a two-sentence article in Metro of 7 October 2022 ‘children are celebrating a record crop of huge conkers’, the hot summer having produced ‘the biggest glut for years’. Consequently the World Conker Championships, to be held in Southwick, Northamptonshire,  on Sunday 9 October, will be ‘off to a cracking start’.  This seems to suggest that the Championships are an event for children; although there are children’s competitions which are held in a separate area, the main competitions are for adults, male and female, then a play-off between the two winners.

Are children ‘celebrating’, do they still play conkers?
