Collecting the folklore and uses of plants

Plant-lore Archive: August 2018

August 2018 was a successful month with 34 items of information being received from 27 contributors, bringing the total number of contributions to 7,818, from 2304 contributors.

7,037 searches were made of the website, down from the 7,828 searches made in August 2017 and the 8,707 made in 2016.

Samples were received of the possible page layout of Vickery’s Folk Flora, and additional photographs were assembled for use in this.  Work on ‘Plants in Popular Culture’ in the nineteenth century, to be included in the multi-volume Cultural History of Plants, appears to be nearing completion, and publication is expected in February 2019.  One minor publication was produced:

Cemetery Plants:  Rosebay willowherb (Chamerion angustifolium), Friends of Brompton Cemetery Magazine 61: 10-11.
