As usual December was a quiet month – made even quieter by the government’s increasingly severe response to Covid-19.  However, 13 items of information were received from 10 contributors, bringing the totals to 8498 items from 2771 informants.  Some interesting queries were received from users of the website; we hope the replies were useful.

Work continued on the writing of a book on local English plant-names, so the first draft should be completed by the end of January.  But in the meantime if anyone has any local names they would like to contribute these would be appreciated; please send them to
