Collecting the folklore and uses of plants

Plant-lore Archive: January 2012

Although a great deal of effort was made to try and collect material early in the month, the results were somewhat disappointing with only 64 items of information being received from nine contributors. Noteworthy amongst these contributors was Mary Smith who sent in a further batch of items on behalf of her mother, Anne Wilks (b.1918) of Whitstable, Kent, who has now contributed 55 items in all. Thank you.
The Archive contains 6110 items from 1443 contributors.
Over 300 species are now included in ‘Material Collected’, but searchers are reminded that the Archive contains a great deal of material not included on the website, so an enquiry to the compiler might be worthwhile. However, it should be noted that the Archive is primarily concerned with plants which are native to, or commmonly cultivated in, the British Isles, so it is unlikely that it includes information on exotic species.
37 searches were made during the month.
