Collecting the folklore and uses of plants

Plant-lore Archive – October 2021

October 2021 started off extremely slowly, but towards the end of the month things gathered momentum, and 15 items of information were received from 13 contributors, bringing the totals up to 8954 items from 3029 informants.

Visits were paid to the Vale of Belvoir Conker Championship, and the Friends of Tooting Common Pumpkin Parade.  Walks were provided for Streatham Womens Institute and Woodfield People.

Two book reviews were published:

Fez Inkwright, Folk Magic & Healing: An unusual History of everyday Plants, in Folklore 132: 322

Marlow Renton & Eric Biggane, Foraging Pocket Guide, in BSBI News 148: 81.

And an article ‘A life with flora, Connie Doxat speaks to botanist and writer on plant folklore, Roy Vickery …’ appeared in Marshwood Vale Magazine 271: 32-3.
