Platform 8 poppies

On 10 November 1920, at 8.32 p.m., the corpse of the Unknown Warrior – a victim of the First World War – arrived by train at Platform 8 of Victoria Station, London.  It remained on the train overnight before being transported and interred in Westminster Abbey on 11 November 1920, where it remains in Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, in the nave just beyond the Abbey’s main door.  Poppy wreaths are placed on railings near the entrance to Platform 8 each year to commemorate the corpse’s arrival.
