Poppies in September

Early in September and people are preparing for Remembrance Day (11 November).  On 2 September a cross draped in netting in which knitted poppies had been inserted was seen in St Mary’s Church, Scarborough, North Yorkshire.  The following morning a group of ladies were at work adding more poppies to the netting.  On being asked why they had started so early in the year, they replied that there was a lot of work to be done and they were not sure if they had sufficient poppies.  The cross will be displayed throughout October, ‘in case any schools want to come and see it’. Photograph taken 3 September 2018.
