Plant-Lore

Collecting the folklore and uses of plants

QUERY: Cox’s apples

2014-02-11 20.37.16David Wall, of Lichfield, Staffordshire, has kindly sent another batch of plant-lore, collected from his friends Don (aged 78 and brought up in Wolverhampton) and Don’s wife Jan.

‘Don’s mom said that if you shook an apple next to your ear then if it was a true Cox[‘s Orange Pippin] apple you could hear the seeds rattle.  (Don says modern Cox apples do not rattle).’

Comments and other records of this practice would be appreciated; please send them to roy@plant-lore.com
