Record Echium

Posted on by royvickery |

According to Metro of 3 June 2021, Darren Wilson, a tree-surgeon living in Saltash, Cornwall, has grown the UK’s tallest giant viper’s-bugloss, Echium pininana.  The previous record was 16ft, but Mr Wilson’s plant has reached 18ft, and he thinks ‘it could put on another foot yet’.

Native to the Canary Islands, giant viper’s-bugloss has become increasingly popular as a spectacular garden plant which produces massive spikes of small blue flowers, and readily self-seeds.
