Display at Hampton Court, London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, November 2022. In June 1919 almost 1,500 Indian soldiers sailed from Mumbai (Bombay) to take part in the Victory Parade in London on 19 July. Unfortunately they arrived too late. The soldiers camped in Home Park, Hampton Court, and at King George V’s request a special parade was held on 2 August. Approximately one and a half million Indian troops, of whom 50,000 died, participated in the First World War.
