Collecting the folklore and uses of plants

REMINDER: Green Diversity

11nov-006Roy Vickery will be leading a walk, Green Diversity: Exploring Local Plants, in Walpole Park, London Borough of Ealing, c. 10 minutes walk from Ealing Broadway tube station; meet at the Rickyard at 12.30.  All welcome.

Report:  After heavy rain earlier in the day the weather cleared sufficiently for the walk to go ahead outside in the Park.  About 15 people, including two families, turned up.  Plants discussed included lungwort (Pulmonaria officinalis), butcher’s broom (Ruscus aculeatus) and greater plantain (Plantago major), the roots of which can be cooked and eaten like noodles, according to one participant.  It is hoped that a similar walk can take place sometime during summer 2017.
