REMINDER: Woodland walk, 8 April

Posted on by royvickery |

The third and final walk in a series exploring the Tooting Common woodlands, managed by the London Borough of Wandsworth, will take place on Sunday 8 April, when we will visit Streatham Woods.  Meet at the  entrance to the Lido car park, off Tooting Bec Road, at 2.30 p.m.  Voluntary collection in aid of local Green Party funds.  All welcome, but unless the weather rapidly improves conditions are likely to be muddy, so please wear appropriate footwear.

Report:  Six people turned up on a damp but mild afternoon and spent about 90 minutes wandering through the woods.  We admired the hornbeams (Carpinus betulus) trees which are a feature of this area, a couple of ancient pedunculate oaks (Quercus robur), and a fine spread of early dog-violet (Viola reichenbachiana) in full bloom.  £25 was collected in aid of Green Party funds.

Although this was the final walk in the ‘exploring woodlands’ series, it is hoped to continue these walks on a monthly basis, visiting different parts of the Common.  If you would like to receive details please contact
