Royal Society of St George wreath-laying

Posted on by royvickery |

Each year on or near St George’s Day, 23 April, the Royal Society of St George holds its Annual Cadet Parade and Wreath Laying at the Cenotaph, in Whitehall, City of Westminster.  In 2022, the event took place on Saturday 23 April. Contingents of cadets from each of the three armed services assembled, representatives of the Royal British Legion lowered their standards as the Last Post was sounded, a clergyman led almost inaudible prayers, and members of the Society, led by the Lord Mayor of Westminster and his wife, laid identical wreaths of artificial red roses at the base of the Cenotaph (one woman laid a bunch of red tulips in addition to her wreath).  Few of the participants wore red roses, and there were few spectators.
