‘Stinging success’

Posted on by royvickery |

According to an article in the Dorset Echo of 9 July 2012, entitled ‘West Dorset nettle-eating bash a stinging success’, the nettle (Urtica dioica)-eating contest at the George Inn, Chideock (see News, 2 June 2012) attracted ‘hundreds of brave contestants’. The winner, Sam Cunningham, consumed 54ft of nettles. This does not mean that he ate 54ft of nettle stems, but ate the leaves attached to 54ft of nettle stems.
