A beech (Fagus sylvatica) tree in the grounds of Heathfield Primary School, in Ayr, has numerous red ties attached to it. All the ties appear to be of the same age, and it is probable that they were placed there at the end of summer term 2017, by pupils who were moving on to secondary schools. As all the ties are of the same age, none seem to be older or from earlier years, there is a possibility that this practice started in 2017, or perhaps it has been going for several years but older ties are removed before new ones are added.
So far attempts to obtain information from the school have been unsuccessful, so any comments would be greatly appreciated; please send them to roy@plant-lore.com
