Traveller’s grave decorations in Lewes

Posted on by royvickery |

Notes on the extravagant floral decorations placed on the graves of travellers can be found elsewhere on this website, most recently ‘Floral tribute for Dannie Buckley’, posted on 17 March 2022.

The photograph here, taken on 2 May 2022, shows the grave of Henry Harris (1935-2014) in Lewes Cemetery, East Sussex, decorated with real and artificial flowers, mainly chrysanthemums.  Other evidence for Henry’s traveller heritage can be found on his headstone, the two horses, and, on the back, a rather idealised depiction of a gypsy campfire.
