Trick or treat in Balham, 2017

The Heaver Estate in Balham, London Borough of Wandsworth, consists mostly of what estate agents call ‘family homes’ – big houses, some of which have been divided into flats. At around 7 p.m. on Hallowe’en, Tuesday 31 October 2017, groups of children, some in fancy dress, accompanied by an adult were visiting some of these houses.  Only houses which were decorated for Hallowe’en were visited.  Decorations included artificial cobwebs, a variety of witch or ghost mass-produced objects, and pumpkins which had usually been hollowed and carved, or orange balloons with faces marked on them.
