Collecting the folklore and uses of plants

1. Take a bunch of delphiniums, look through them on Midsummer’s Eve at the midsummer bonfire and it will cure and preserve your eyes till the following year.
I told a friend of mine, who was having terrible trouble with her eyes – cataracts – about this. She didn’t have a midsummer bonfire, but on Midsummer’s Eve she took a bunch of delphiniums and placed her cigarette lighter behind them, and looked at them for about 20 minutes. Her eyes did improve; when she saw the eye specialist in the autumn he said he had never known eyes improve so rapidly [Chelsea, London, May 2003].
