Kelp

1. [Ireland, Donegal] My grandmother remembers the long stalk from the base of kelp being tied into a ring and given to young children having teething problems [Natural History Museum, London, October 2012].

The name ‘kelp’ was probably used for a number of species of large, long-stalked brown seaweeds.
