The Times of 22 January 2013 reports that the seed company Thompson & Morgan have paid £200 for a pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) seed which ‘came from a record pumpkin grown in Rhode Island, in the U.S., that weighed almost a tonne.’
A company spokesman explained: ‘We are paying for pedigree.’
