During the last 15 or so years Christmas tree festivals have become popular in English churches. Local organisations and businesses are invited to decorate a tree in the church and the displayed trees often form the focus for a number of associated events such as music recitals and carol services, or the selling of refreshments, etc., to raise funds.
It seems that few have sufficient energy to produce annual festivals, and most seem to hold festivals every other year. Inevitably there is a desire to produce more trees each time a festival is held. In 2008 Christchurch, Erith, in the London Borough of Bexley displayed 75 trees at its third festival.
