The state funeral of Winston Churchill, Britain’s World War II leader, was held on the 30 January 1965. The wreath shown was laid by his descendants at the base of his statue in Parliament Square, Westminster, London, to mark the 50th anniversary of this event.
According to the London Evening Standard another wreath was laid by the Prime Minister, David Cameron, at the statue of Churchill in the Members’ Lobby of the Houses of Parliament.
In view of the extremely high regard in which Churchill was held during his lifetime (there were some who seemed to believe that he was immortal and would not die) it is, perhaps, surprising that only one wreath was placed around the Parliament Square statue.
