The Metro of 29 August 2013 carried a short report, with photographs, of the annual Tomatina festival in Bunol, Spain. For the first time an admission charge was made, but none the less about 20,000 people threw 130 tonnes of ripe tomatoes [Solanum lycopsersicum].

According to a report in Air Europa’s in-flight magazine, Europa, 143, August 2015: Tomatina has been ‘plagiarized in places as far-flung as Sutamarchán in Colombia and Guangdong in China.’
