Since it seems 1939 3 September has been designated as Merchant Navy Day, and on this day a service is held and wreaths are laid at the Merchant Navy Memorial in  Trinity Square Gardens, near Tower Hill tube station, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, and elsewhere.
