Orion to publish ‘A Folk Flora’

Posted on by royvickery |

An agreement has been signed with Orion who will publish Roy Vickery’s book, provisionally entitled A Folk Flora.  The book, which will be 150,000 – 175,000 words in length and include both black-and-white and colour illustrations, will cover all aspects of the folklore and traditional uses of plants in the British Isles, and, where possible, include some indication of where these beliefs and practices are known elsewhere.

The final manuscript will be delivered before the end of 2017, and publication is expected in 2019.

Although a wide range of printed and manuscript sources will be used one of the major strengths of the book will be the inclusion on a large amount of material which has been collected in recent years.  So far over 1,950 people have contributed some 7,300 items of information, but more is urgently needed.  Material relating from 1970 to the present, Ireland and Scotland, would be particularly appreciated; but anything from anywhere adds to our knowledge and will be gratefully received.

I look forward to hearing from you!
