Photographs taken at c.9.30 a.m. on Palm Sunday, 10 April 2022, outside San Isidro’s church, Madrid, Spain © Carlos Bruzon.
Bunches of olive (Olea europaea) and rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus, syn. Rosmarinus officinalis) for use as ‘palm’; ‘The man told me that his father did the same when he was a child. I [Carlos Bruzon] have never seen it in Andalucia.’
Addendum: At the Palm Sunday in St Peter’s Square, Vatican City, most of the congregation carried small branches of olive, although most of the clergy who formed a parade carried fresh palm fronds, or elaborate decorations made from dried palm fronds (larger and more elaborate versions of those shown below).
More elaborate ‘palms’.
