QUERY: Rainbow poppies

In his Men at War – Loving, Lusting, Fighting, Remembering 1939-1945 (2023) Luke Turner comments:

‘The flower [poppy, Papaver] that was once a symbol of peace [is] now deployed as an emblem of British nationalism.  It has even become co-opted into the old, homophobic notion that somehow queer people have no right to lay claim to the memory to the memory of the war. Brexit Party candidate Nicholas Goulding criticised an LGBT+ rainbow poppy in 2019 … “you are undermining a symbol for the nation”.’

One assumes that very few rainbow poppies were produced; has anyone ever seen one, has anyone any information about them?  Please send any comments to roy@plant-lore.com
