On the same date The Times reports on sunflower festivals in Japan.  A photograph shows visitors trying to find their way through a sunflower maze near Nogi in Tochigi, about 40 miles north of Tokyo.  ‘The country has several other popular sunflower festivals, culminating in the Hokuryu village event, where an entire hillside is covered by 1.3 million blooms.’  This year sunflowers are blooming earlier than usual due to an unusually hot summer.
