1. Recipe for Red Peony Cough Syrup, handed down from my grandmother. I had it as a child; also made it for my children and grandchildren:
To every head of bloom (picked fully out) pour over 1 pint boiling water, let stand for three days; strain off. To each pint of liquid add 1 lb sugar and 1/2 oz of whole cloves (put in muslin), boil for 1 hour. Bottle when cold [Charlwood, Surrey, April 2004].
