Sweet cicely

2.   I have always used sweet cicely in cooked apple dishes, a habit I suppose I picked up from my mother or grandmother. Would wartime sugar rationing have been a factor in reviving the practice, perhaps? [Norton Subcourse, Norfolk, July 2003].
