Artificial acorns (fruit of pedunculate oak, Quercus robur) and oak leaves placed on book recording ‘the names of 8417 all ranks of the 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment who fell in the Great War, 1914-19’, in Chester Cathedral, Cheshire.  Acorns are also featured on the Regiment’s war memorials in the Cathedral.

The Regiment’s cap badge is a eight-pointed star with oak leaves and an acorn at its centre.  It’s believed that the acorn and oak leaves were granted by King George III in 1743.
