12 October:  Autumn Plant Walk. This event on Tooting Common, London Borough of Wandsworth, and organised by the Friends of the Common, attracted about 12 people who spent a happy 90 minutes or so wandering around the Common and examining some of the plants which grow there.  These included Midland hawthorn, Crataegus laevigata, first noticed on the Common earlier in the year; manna ash, Fraxinus ornus grafted on to native ash, F. excelsior, probably planted late in the nineteenth century, and chamomile, Chamaemelum nobile, known on the Common since 1924 and now apparently spreading.

24 October:  Turning Leaves at the South London Botanical Institute.  Seven people turned up for this session jointly run by Richard Choksey, one of the Institute’s Learning and Communities Co-leaders, and Roy Vickery, to identify pavement weeds, and discuss how and when they arrived here.  Everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves and looked forward to similar events in the future
