The following quote, from C.E. Salmon, Flora of Surrey, 1931: 317, might be of interest to bee-keepers:
‘[Houseleek (Sempervivum tectorum is] said to have been planted in bygone days to preserve buildings from lightning and thunder and perhaps, also by bee-keepers who find the leaves soothing in the case of stings.’
