Floral carpet prepared for ‘Solemn Evensong, Procession and Benediction of the Most Holy Sacrament’, a service which attracted a full church, at St Mary’s [Anglo-Catholic] Church, Bourne Street, Belgravia, London, on Sunday 22 June 2025.

Although described as a ‘floral’  carpet, it was composed mainly of green leaves, collected on the Knole, Kent, estate of the Sackville-West family, with occasional rose petals.  Leaves of sweet chestnut, Castanea sativa, predominated; it’s assumed that these were used because they were readily available, rather than because they had any particular significance.
