According to one website: ‘Dates [fruit of Phoenix dactylifera] … are a staple food in Ramadan and are traditionally used to break the fast due to their natural sugars which provide quick energy, They are highly nutritious … Eating dates during Ramadan is a long-standing tradition that dates back to the time of the Prophet Muhammad.’
