Here we explain the Local Names page on our website, so that users can make best use of it.

The names listed are derived from a database maintained by the compiler.  This has nine columns:

1. Date on which entry was added or last edited.

2. An asterisk (*) here indicates that the website contains an image of the plant.

3. Local name.

4. Scientific (Latin) name.

5. Standard English name.

6. Area/s from which the local name was recorded.

7. Recorder’s comments on, or explanation of, the local name, if any.

8 Source, either a publication, e.g. ‘Davey, 1909: 23’ – author, date of publication and page number, please contact the compiler  – roy@plant-lore.com – for further details, or, where marked with an asterisk, received by a contributor to P-LA.
