Tower Hill Memorial, north of the Tower of London, commemorates ‘men and women of the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets who died in both World Wars and have no known grave’. There is also a separate memorial ‘in memory of those merchant seafarers who gave their lives to secure the freedom of the Falkland Islands, 1981’. Many wreaths have been placed on the memorials, some of them standard red poppy wreaths, but the majority of them are Merchant Navy Association wreaths. These consist of artificial red, white, blue, and green flowers (possibly chrysanthemums); does anyone know why the green flowers are included?
