The final plant walk planned for 2022 will take place on Tooting Common, London Borough of Wandsworth, on Sunday 6 November, starting at 2 p.m. For further details please see the Events page on this website.
Report: Despite heavy rain earlier in the day persisting until the start of the walk nine people turned up to examine the plants, mainly trees, growing on either side of the railway line which runs parallel to the north side of the Common. We were able to compare pendunculate (Quercus robur), sessile (Q petraea) and Turkey (Q. cerris) oaks, three species of maple, field maple (Acer campestre), Norway maple (A. platanoides) and sycamore (A. pseudoplatanus). After about 30 minutes the rain stopped and we were able to spend the final hour or so enjoying unexpected bright sunshine.
‘As ever, it was a treat listening to Roy sharing his wealth of knowledge.’
‘Another very interesting walk despite the rain and puddles.’
