On Thursday 15 August members of the South London Botanical Institute will pay another visit to St Leonard’s churchyard, in Streatham, London Borough of Lambeth, and continue their long-term survey of the plants growing there.  All, regardless of botanical knowledge, are invited to come along.  For further information see the Events page on this website.

Report:  Six people joined the leaders to spend about 75 minutes slowly walking around the area and trying to identify the flowering plants found there.  In all over 70 species were recorded.  It was particularly pleasing to see that the small Fraxinus excelsior ‘Monophylla’ – a form of ash in which each leaf has only one leaflet – first recorded in 2008, continues to survive, though due to constant mowing it is unable to attain more than a few centimetres in height (see image).

It was agreed that we should gather again in April 2025 to examine the site’s flora at a different time of year.
