Collecting the folklore and uses of plants

REMINDER: Plant walk, 25 March

Posted on by royvickery |

Following our enjoyable exploration of Graveney Woods on Tooting Common, we will continue our visits to the Common’s woodland areas on Sunday 25 March, when we will explore Bedford Woods.  Meet at the junction of Emmanuel, Fernlea and Cavendish Roads (about 10 minutes walk from Balham station) at 2.30 p.m.  Voluntary collection in aid of local Green Party funds.

Report:  Five people turned up and enjoyed wandering through the woodland, where we examined, amongst other plants, a fine small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata), elm (Ulmus sp.) and an expanding patch of dog’s mercury (Mercurialis perennis), first noticed in 2013, and said to be an indicator of ancient woodland.  £30 was contributed to local Green Party funds.  Thank you!
